Practitioner-Client Messaging

Practitioners and clients can communicate with one another using Nutri-Q's chat feature. 

  • Messages between practitioners and clients are private and encrypted.
  • Chat is structured like an instant messaging application, with a single persistent conversation thread. Your full chat history is always viewable. 

How to Enable or Disable Chat

The chat feature is enabled by default, however practitioners can disable it from Account Settings if they prefer to communicate with clients by other means. You can use the following steps to disable chat:

  1. Click the settings icon in the bottom-left corner of the interface and select My Account from the menu.

  2. Click Account Settings in the sidebar and scroll down to Client Chat.

  3. Click the Edit button next to Client Chat.
  4. Choose your desired setting in the pop up dialog and click Save.

How to Use Chat as a Practitioner

As a practitioner, you can access the chat feature from two places within your practitioner dashboard. 

  1. By clicking the Chat tab on the Client Details page.

  2. By clicking the Chat icon in the left-sidebar.

How to Use Chat as a Client

  1. From your client dashboard, click the Chat icon in the left-sidebar on your dashboard.

  2. This will take you to the Chat page.  
  3. Follow the instructions below to write, send, and edit messages. 

The Chat Tab/Page

On the Client Details page, the Chat tab displays your full chat history with the current client, and lets you send, edit, or delete messages.

If you are a client, you will see the same interface, centered on the Chat page.

The Practitioner Chat Widget

On the Practitioner dashboard, there is also a stand-alone chat page, accessible from the left-sidebar.  This page displays a consolidated chat widget, which gives you access to all your client conversations in one place.

  • To switch between conversations, you can click the client's name in the Conversations list in the left column.
  • To start chatting with a new client, click Start New Conversation and select their name from your client list. 

Writing New Messages

Write your message in the text field at the bottom of the Chat tab.  You can enable additional formatting options by clicking the Aa button to the right of the text field.

Formatting options include:

  • Bold and italic text
  • Ordered and unordered lists
  • Hyperlinks

You can also press the Shift+Enter key to add line/paragraph breaks to your text (which will be maintained in the final message). 

When you are ready to send your message, press Enter, or click the Send button to the right of the text field.

Editing and Deleting Messages

If you hover your cursor over a message in your chat history, a context menu will appear, providing options to edit or delete the message.

  • Click the pencil icon to edit a message. After you finish editing the text, click the send button again to save your changes.
  • Click the trash can icon to delete the current message. 

Message Notifications

When you have an unread message as either a Practitioner or Client, you will see notifications in two places:

  1. A red indicator will appear on top of the Chat icon in your sidebar, displaying the number of unread messages.
  2. The title of your Nutri-Q browser tab will change to New Message, and display the number of unread messages in parentheses.
